Demos, Tutorials and Special Sessions
ASYNC 2012
Call for Tutorials, Demos, and Special Sessions
18th IEEE International Symposium on Asynchronous Circuits and Systems
May 7-9, 2012
Copenhagen, Denmark
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Researchers and practitioners from both academia and industry are invited to submit proposals for tutorials, demos, and special sessions to be held during the ASYNC 2012 Symposium, which will take place May 7-9, 2012 in Copenhagen, Denmark. All proposals should be sent electronically to the special sessions chair, Gennette Gill, at Gennette.Gill@deshawresearch.com.
The purpose of tutorials, demos, and special sessions is to extend and strengthen the ASYNC 2012 program. Proposals that address timely topics that are not traditionally covered in the regular program or that provide a new perspective on topics that are already covered are strongly encouraged. The symposium chairs reserve the right to refuse proposals due to logistical constraints.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Tutorial, demo, and special session proposals:
Acceptance notification:
Submission of printed materials:
Jan 20, 2012
Feb 10, 2012
Apr 6, 2012
POSTER SESSION:
We invite you to participate in the Poster Session at ASYNC 2012. Posters are invited on all topics relevant to the symposium, including:
- Works in progress
- Wild and crazy ideas
- Last-minute results
- Ph.D. student projects
- Industry posters
- Demos not requiring elaborate setup
The posters will not be reviewed, and will not become a part of the symposium proceedings. However, there will be a 1.5 hour session (4:30-6pm on Monday, May 7) that will feature interactive poster presentations, demos and a round-table discussion, running in parallel. Refreshments will be provided.
Please let the General Chair know by May 1 if you would like to bring a poster, so space can be reserved for you. We look forward to welcoming you to Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark for an exciting week.
TUTORIALS:
The purpose of tutorials is to educate the attendees about specific topics or to provide the background necessary to understand technical advances in relevant areas. The tutorial should be appealing to a broad audience with interests in asynchronous research. Possible topics of interest include, but are not limited to, use of CAD tools for asynchronous design, low-power design techniques, GALS and synchronous elastic systems, and asynchrony in emerging technologies.
The tutorial proposal should include:
‣Title of the tutorial
‣Contact information for the presenter(s) (name, email address, affiliation)
‣Duration (half day or full day)
‣Keywords and scope of the tutorial
‣Description of the potential target audience for the tutorial
‣A short biography of the presenter(s)
The ASYNC Symposium will:
‣Print and distribute to tutorial attendees the materials that the tutorial organizers submit by the April 6 deadline.
‣Handle registration for tutorial sessions, and reserve the right to cancel any tutorial if too few attendees are registered for a given tutorial.
DEMOS:
The demo session enables both academic researchers and industrial companies to exhibit their latest work in the area of asynchronous design. The symposium chairs encourage demonstrations of both software tools and hardware designs. This includes demonstrations of CAD tools, simulation environments, integrated circuit designs, and FPGA prototypes.
The demo proposal should include:
‣Title of the demonstration
‣Content of the demonstration (e.g. CAD tools, circuit exhibition, FPGA board exhibition)
‣Contact information for the presenter(s) (name, email address, affiliation)
‣Any special requirements (electrical appliances, oscilloscope, etc.)
The ASYNC Symposium will:
‣Provide a demonstration table, a panel to attach a demo poster (if desired), and access to an electrical outlet. Attempts will be made to meet any special requirements.
‣Print a two-page extended abstract for your demo in a special supplemental booklet.
SPECIAL SESSIONS:
Special sessions provide a flexible format for researchers to present a body of related work or to encourage discussion on relevant topics. Special sessions may be organized as a set of short presentations that cover a common theme or as a panel discussion. The expected duration of a special session is 60-120 minutes. NOTE: Work presented in a special session will not be published in the symposium proceedings, but will be distributed to attendees only in a supplemental booklet.
The aim of the special sessions is to provide a complementary flavor to the regular sessions and should include hot topics of interest to the asynchronous design community. Proposals will be evaluated based on the scientific relevance and the timeliness of the topic and the qualifications of the organizers of the session. The proposer(s) of each special session will be expected to solicit presenters or panel discussion members, in consultation with the special session chair.
The special session proposal should include:
‣Title of the special session.
‣Rationale of the need for the special session at ASYNC 2012. The rationale should stress the novelty of the topic and must explain how it is different from the subjects covered by the regular sessions.
‣Short biography of the organizers.
‣A plan for the format of the special session either as a set of presentations or a panel discussion. (Details, including list of presenters, should be worked out in collaboration with the chair once the proposal is accepted.)
The ASYNC Symposium will:
‣Work with the proposer(s) to finalize the special session program.
‣Print a two-page extended abstract for each special-session presenter in a supplemental booklet.
