- This year highlight, prepared since the summer of 2007, when
Marianne was with Kari and Dines for 9-10 days at our usual place:
Hotel Latemar
in
the South Tyrolean Alps in Italy, we went there, for fully two
weeks, with Marianne and Camilla.
- The left photo below shows the Rosengarten, or, in Italian, the
Marmolada, mountain range as always visible from our hotel, our
rooms, and from our walks.
- The center photo shows the three young ladies at the center of
Dines' two week in South Tyrol.
- The rightmost photo below shows the Verdorfer/Weger family:
in foreground the three children of Johan (V.) and Margit (W.).
There are, to us, the Hotel
Latemar Family. They now spend summers
in the Villa Italia up the slope on the same plot of land from the
hotel. Kari, Nikolaj, Charlotte and I stayed for 2-3-4 weeks in the
summers of 1980-1986 alone in Villa Italia - in an arrangement with
the Rusinow family, our friends from our days in Vienna
(1973-1975). Denny Rusinow had discovered the place when he did his
Oxford Univ. PhD studies of ``Italy’s Austrian Heritage -
1919-1946'', published in 1969; two volumes and 753 pages long.
Margit's mother, Frau Weger, got the building from here mother who
had had a small Pensione there which her daughter extended after the
war into the Pensione we stayed at from the mid 1980s to early 1990s
at which time Frau Weger died and left it to Margit who let it to
the current operators: Claus and Irmgard Fink and got it reclassified
to a hotel.
- Dines only managed to get one really got photo of Marianne, to
the left below on the terrace of the Inn near the foot of the
Pemmern funiviare. One gets there, from Hotel Latemar, after an 8
km. treck over the mountain massif, from 1250 to about 1850 meters.
- The dirndls are those of Kari's and Charlotte's from our first
trip to South Tyrol in 1980 !
- A favourite walk is "down and across": down 400ms (altitude
diff.) and 5 kms. to a buschenschrank, a place which serves own wine
with fresh
farmer-speck and own cheese, then across 3 kms. to Unterinn, and, for the
strong ones, up 450ms (altitude diff.) and 5 kms. back to Hotel
Latemar. Photo is from buschenschrank Partchunerhof.
- The leftmost photo is also from buschenschrank Partchunerhof.
- And the next two: middle and rightmost, are from the walk to
buschenschrank Partchunerhof.
- The leftmost photo shows the result of our first shopping spree
in Bolzano. Bolzano can be reached by the now modernised
``seilbahn'' in 12 mins. from our village, Soprabolzano/Oberbozen,
from 1250 down to 340 m. altitude. Bolzano is always nice to visit:
vine bars, good restaurants (Zur Kaiserkron is a favourite) - and,
for the ladies: Italian design clothes galore.
- The next two photos shows stops on our treckings.
- And on!
- We went down by auto-train Hamburg-Munich Fri.-Sat. 24-25 July
and
we went back by auto-train Munich-Hamburg Sat.-Sun. 8-9 August.
- We had dinner in Hamburg on the way down Friday at 6pm at Rest.
Rive Bistro.
- And we had dinner, last photo, below right, in Munich on the way
up Saturday at 6 pm at
Rest. Rue des Halles.
