- In the morning we spent an hour getting a police
"replacement" at the local station:
The front car number plate
had fallen off on the freeway from Rostock to Berlin. Very
courteous police.
- In rainy weather off to Regensburg and check in at
Hotel Bischofshof.
- Leisurely late afternoon.

Oberbozen, Italy, July 23-30:
- Next morning, a Saturday morning, over the first of 6 mountain
passes on this 18 day tour:
- Arrival at "our place": Hotel
Latemar: we stayed here
- with the children some 4 summers from 1980 to 1985:
4+4+3+3 weeks
in the adjoining Villa Italia, the whole house,
- with the children some 4 summers from 1986 to 1991:
2+2+2+2 weeks,
- Kari and I in the 1990s, some 5 times (one week),
- since 2000 some 6 times (one week),
- with Camilla in 2005 (a week in October),
- with Marianne a week in 2007,
- with both girls two weeks in 2009, and
- now with the whole family for a full week.
- Kari and I were the hosts, "all hotel costs included".
- Having a real hair and beard cut in a real old-style barbershop
in Bozen is life !
- Taking the grandchildren
- to Bozen/Bolzano for shopping,
- to 6 different places during one week,
- for a new walk in the mountains everyday for a week,
is life !

The farewell photo
- Dines enjoyed heading a table with 11 family members all week:
breakfast and dinner.
- Over two mountain passes along SS42 to the Como Lake and the
town of Menaggio.
- It was OK with the many sports cyclists on the narrow roads up
to and down from the passes.
But it was annoying with the rather fast moving motor cyclists on
these same roads.
- Our room in Hotel Du
Lac
faced the
town square and the lake.
- Our first trip to Schweiz was in Sept. 1966.
In our MGB
sports car.
In by Basel where we had lunch in an Italian
restaurant which served, to our taste the most wonderful Vitello
Tonata.
On every visit to an Italian restaurant we try that dish
for comparison.
Then via Bern, with lunch, and onto Lausanne and by road to
Geneva and Annecy.
(We were going for a three week Science Summer
School in Villard de Lans, some 40 kms. southwest of Grenoble.
- Subsequently we visited, still by the same sporty car, Geneva
three times in 1967.
Dines to lecture at the IBM Systems Engineering
Institute there for 4-5 weeks.
On those trips we toured The Alps
and the rest of Switzerland, and also a long weekend in Stresa by
the Lago Maggiore with all Saturday in Milan.
Dines further
visited Geneva, flying there, thrice in 1968 when Kari was pregnant
and had Charlotte.
- We have visited Switzerland 3-4 times driving in our big
Mercedes in the years 1981-1997.
- Then there has been several visits in the 1990s and 2000s to ETH
Zürich.
- So Switzerland is familiar to us. We like it.
- to Meiringen
where we checked in
with Hotel Victoria.
- Dines rested in the luxurious beds, relaxing from the arduous
mountain driving.
- Next morning a leisure drive along the
Brienzer
and
Thuner
lakes to Thun.
- Here, as you can see, we enjoyed a late morning coffee.
- Then lunch in the Simmenthal:
- and finally one more pass, the Jaun Pass
- Next morning down to the Lac Leman and on to Geneva
- where we had lunch at our old favourite Cafe
de Paris
since the 3-4 times we
stayed in Geneva, six weeks each time, in 1967-1968:
- Off in the morning via Bienne to Bern.
- Arrived before noon.
- Checked into Hotel Goldener
Schlüssel.
- Strolled around the inner city. Enjoyed it.
- Next morning we bought some 12 bottles of wine:
pairs of white and red from six vintners across six regions of Switzerland.
- Drove via Emmenthal, where we bought both
Gruyere and Emmenthaler cheeses,
- to Lörrach where we took the auto-train
to Hamburg-Altona.
- Home in Holte by mid afternoon.
