Estimation of Wind Speed in Connection to a Wind Turbine

AbstractThe wind speed varies over the rotor plane of wind turbine making it impossible to determine from a single wind speed measurement taken by an anemometer. However, in this paper the wind speed on the rotor plane will be estimated by using a wind turbine as a wind measuring device. To realize the idea, a knowledge of the system characteristics is required, therefore the fundamental relations and principles of system dynamics will be presented. Several estimation methods such as Newton-Raphson method, Kalman filter method and extended Kalman filter method will be investigated in the paper.
