| Abstract | The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the possibilities of using GPS for technical surveying in a Greenlandic municipality. In order to cover as many different types of jobs as possible, the focus is set on Real Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS.
The first chapters deals with basic terms and methods of GPS measuments and the theory behind the processing of GPS observations is introduced.
Then, based on practical experiments elements as accuracy, radio coverage and potential strengths and weaknesses are discussed.
The work includes setting up a permanent GPS reference station, testing the radio coverage of the reference station and the accuracy of RTK measuments, evaluating the accuracy of the excisting benchmarks and discussing the potential of RTK with local administrators and building contractors.
