Week plan #8
For the week 24. October - 28. October
Preparations for the week
Two surprises from Tuesday the 11th:
- It was a pleasure to see that about 20 of you joined the
lectures to hear about Chapter 14 of the BK textbook.
In addition I draw your attention to the material available
from the subpages
From the last one we took a closer look at Beauty and the
Beast comparing an object-oriented solution with a more
traditional one. I think it was for the first time you
saw auxiliary classes declared private in the class where
objects of those classes should be used. Maybe, that idea
could be useful for some classes of the Mandatory Assignment
- Only 4 of you joined the exercise class after the one hour lecture.
Of course you are free to work at home. I hope it's
because most of you don't have problems with the assignment
Some comments on the Mandatory Assignment:
- Instead of using CRC cards you could start looking for the
data structures best suited to easily handle the commands.
Play scenarios and find out how to interact with the data
structures. During that process make improvements and
suggestions to methods.
Next step is to place the data structures as fields in
the appropriate classes and add methods
- It's important to separate the model from the view in
order easily to switch between the two views, the text
interface and the GUI, refer to section 13.7.5, pages 439-441
of the BK textbook
- Some of the collection classes require overwriting of
methods
equals
and hashCode
of
class Object
. Refer to section 9.8, pages
290-292 of the BK textbook, and to section 22.8,
pages 104-105 of the PS textbook
- It could be useful to apply enumerated types
- Handling error messages and present them either in a line
based user interface or in a GUI could be generalized by
use of exceptions
- The simplifications made in stating the problem to be solved
imply that only one film will be shown on one day in a particular
cinema having only one hall
- Answers to questions posed to Ville and Finn Gustafsson should
be available for all of you as part of the course homepages:
