Project No. 0249:  Gait pattern as biometric for security
Aktuelle Tidligere

Description:

Gait pattern is a unique biometric. The identification of this biometric has been investigated thoroughly for recognizing people from computer vision systems, as an indicator for brain diseases but also as an authentication method in mobile devices. In the latter approach most of the times according to the scientific literature, the gait pattern is captured with accelerometers but there are other ways to capture the gait like using force sensors under the shoe sole. Furthermore most of the application scenarios are focusing on user-authentication for mobile devices but there are applications such as using this gait pattern instead of RFID card locks.

In the project the student(s) are supposed to develop a prototype based on a regular shoe and a combination of force sensors to be able to obtain the gait pattern from a user and utilize it in user-authentication methods. Next the system should be compared with the state of the art and illustrated in an application scenario where the user is authenticated in similar manner like the RFID card locks. The authentication protocol between the two sides will be carried out with a BLE module.
