In recent years, Software Transactional Memory (STM) has been proposed as an alternative to traditional lock-based protection of shared data structures and a number of experimental libraries and frameworks supporting STM have become available.
In this project, the current state of STM should be evaluated. A few of the STM libraries should be investigated and their usuability and performance should be compared to those of lock-based solutions. Both concurrent and parallel applications should be adressed by selecting or developing appropriate benchmarks.
