Programs playing games such as Othello and chess is an interesting and challenging area where development of game tree search algorithms is combined with low-level programming and artificial intelligence algorithms. Many state-of-the art algorithms use probalistic approaches. One example is Multi-Prob Cut used in Othello playing programs. The thesis proposal involves implementing a game playing program. Candidates are assumed to have experience with low-level programming. Experience with Othello or chess is not required but could be beneficial.
