When you produce graduate theses and reports - guidelines and recommended typesettings

Recommended Latex package:

Download the imm-report Latex package:

Microsoft Word users please adopt the style provided in the example phdthesis.pdf. Use Adobe Distiller or other means to generate a PDF version of your report.

For the time being the latex package is made for a ph.d.-thesis only. Though the type-settings are handy for M.Sc., B.Sc. and B.Eng. theses also. Cut the sentence "IMM-PHD-2003-70", and replace with your report number, e.g. IMM-M.Sc.-2010-53 and leave the next page as it is.

Two versions of the reports should be provided, one for printing and one for the IMM publication database and the web.

Hand in and e-mail your report to DTU Informatics

Hand in your completed thesis report to your DTU supervisor. The few printed copies of your signed report made for supervisor and censor (preferably bound somehow) should be printed by yourself.

When you submit your dissertation to the department and supervisor, e-mail your report containing the-ready-for-print and net-version pdf to the print@imm.dtu.dk, DTU Informatics print team, building 321/305, room 054/the library (or inform us where the files can be downloaded. Contact person: Finn Kuno Christensen. Note that DTU Webmail max limit is 2MB, use another email program if your report is bigger.

Please contact the reception at DTU Informatics, building 305, room 009 when you hand in and inform about your report is confidential. Inform the print-service of the internal report number that you receive at the reception, for example IMM-M.Sc.-2010-88. You can mention, not necessarily, this number at the front page of your report. At the reception you must sign the form "Publication of Master Thesis Project" (In Danish: "Offentliggørelse af eksamensprojekt, civil.") concerning permissions of your work. At the same time and place you will receive a "Receipt for delivery" (In Danish: "Kvittering for aflevering af eksamensprojekt, civil."). You can also receive a serial number by writing to reception@imm.dtu.dk.

You will receive 3-4 free copies (in 1-2 weeks from the time you hand in) of the final printed report in default DTU Informatics layout. We take care of delivering the required number of copies to DTU library and The Royal Danish Library.

Orbit

DTU Informatics theses are published in a uniform size B5 (176 x 250 mm) department layout in about 16 copies. All reports, theses and dissertations are presented and are searchable via ORBIT - The DTU Research Database (don't forget to mark "Department records" searching for DTU theses), click for an example. You're welcome to expose your report more by sending your report to dansk-it, Specialebørsen. (In Danish).

Main supervisor and student, are responsible for completing the mentioned steps, including submission of the material to DTU Informatics print-service.

Confidential reports

Projects done as industrial cooperation, and because of that "Confidential", will not be publicly available i fulltext via Orbit. These reports must nevertheless have an internal report number. For this, contact the reception. Hardcopy versions of industrial cooperation projects are done in limited issues, and all copies are passed on to the student or supervisors, for this contact Finn Kuno Christensen. It is important to inform the reception at DTU Informatics and print-service, whether your report is confidential (see above).
