Writing a PhD at DTU Informatics guidelines including layout for PhD thesis
PhD theses are published in a uniform size B5 department layout. E-mail your file(s) as attachments to Finn Kuno Christensen, fkc@imm.dtu.dk, who will take care of registration and uploading of all kind of theses versions in full text to DTU Orbit and DTU-Doc. Consult the DTU Portalen (internal pages) for detailed information of department Ph.d.-administration procedures (In Danish).
The printing is carried out by the print-service (print@imm.dtu.dk) and we will help you printing the 8-12 copies ment for supervisors and censors before the defense. For further assistance, contact Finn Kuno Christensen.
The main supervisor and the Phd-student are responsible for completing the following steps including submission of the material to print service. Get the internal (IMM) PhD-number by contacting Finn Kuno Christensen.

Two versions of the thesis should be provided one for printing and one for the IMM publication database and the web.
- Use the option \def\thesisversion{print} in the begining of phdthesis.tex for producing the version for printing.
- Use the option \def\thesisversion{net} in the begining of phdthesis.tex for producing the net version for thepublication database.
Both final versions should be in pdf format.
- If you intend compile directly via pdflatex then use
\documentclass[10pt,twoside]{book}
and produce output pdflatex phdthesis.tex
- If you intend to compile through a PS file use
\documentclass[10pt,twoside,dvips]{book}
and procude the out put via the following steps
- latex phdthesis.tex
- dvips -D600 -Pamz -Pcmz -j0 phdthesis.dvi -o phdthesis.ps
- ps2pdf -sPAPERSIZE=b5 phdthesis.ps phdthesis.pdf or use Acrobat Distiller.
Reports will be printed in about 30 copies. All expenses to be defrayed by the PhD project. The Print service takes care of delivering the required number of copies to DTIC (Technical Knowledge Center & Library) and Nationalbibliografien (The Royal Danish Library). DTU Informatics deposits about 15-20 copies in stock.
