    abstract     = "In this paper, we summarize some recently published methods and results in parametric audio coding. These are all based on
rate-distortion optimized coding using a perceptual distortion
measure. We show how a number of well-known computationally efficient
methods for incorporating perception in sinusoidal parameter
estimation relate to minimizing this perceptual distortion measure. A
number of methods for parametric coding of transients are
compared and results of listening tests are presented. Finally, we
show how the complexity of rate-distortion optimized audio coding can
be reduced by rate-distortion estimation."
