AbstractThe "High performance linear algebra algorithms and "Sparse direct
linear solvers" minisymposia were held in conjunction with PARA'04
Workshop on State-of-the-Art in Scientific Computing, in Lyngby, Denmark,
June 20-23, 2004. There were 29 Numerical Linear Algebra Algorithm
presentations at these minisymposia together with a few contributed talks.

Most of the 29 presentation's papers were included in the Conference
proceedings, LNCS 3732 Lecture Notes in Computer Science of Springer
Verlag Publisher Company.

From these 29 papers 8 were selected to be published as a Special Issue of
this journal. The papers were improved and expanded beyond the conference
proceeding papers. Those papers underwent a rigorous referring process
and 6 have been accepted for publishing in this Special Issue.
