Crane Scheduling for a Plate Storage

Jesper Hansen, Jens Clausen

AbstractOdense Steel Shipyard produces the worlds largest container ships. The first process of producing the steel ships is handling arrival and storage of steel plates until they are needed in production.

This paper considers the problem of scheduling two cranes that carry out the movements of plates into, around and out of the storage. The system is required to create a daily schedule for the cranes, but also handle possible disruptions during the execution of the plan.

The problem is solved with a Simulated Annealing algorithm.
