An Agent-Based Grid Services Exchange

AbstractGrid systems are utilised for performing computational and storage tasks, on a greater scale. However, most Grid systems are comprised of big cluster systems, and are used privately within organisations or in the scientific research community. The Grids provide services as a pool of resources available to the user of the Grid.

This thesis proposes a system where commercial and non-profit Grids can combine their services by exchanging them and selling them to each other, through a network comprising of these Grids.

The Grid owners and buyers of services will negotiate prices and resources through the use of electronic agents, meeting at the local marketplace system. The marketplace systems form a hierarchical network of hubs where the users of the system meet and exchange or sell their resources locally.

The thesis will address the negotiation, using argumentative negotiation techniques to form a framework. Suggestions on the formation of utility functions and how to price the resources are given, as well as the model for the system, and a proposed method of measuring trust within the system.
