Thesis has focused on the design and implementation of trust based route selection in mobile wireless ad hoc networks. A system that stores and updates trust values for nodes encountered in mobile ad hoc networks is designed and implemented. The trust values are used to base routing decisions on. Since a route consists of many nodes that are grouped, different strategies for evaluation of routes based of the nodes trust values have been designed and implemented. The implemented system has been integrated with an existing implementation of the Dynamic Source Routing protocol; A protocol, used for communication in mobile wireless ad hoc networks. To identify how and where to incorporate the trust in the {DSR} protocol an analysis of possible malicious attacks against the protocol have been conducted and presented. To evaluate the performance impacts of applying trust based route selection to the {DSR} protocol several different simulations have been performed on the Ns-2 network simulator. The results from these simulations have been analyzed and presented." }
