Mobile computing devices is becoming an ever larger part of our daily lives. As we acquire more devices it becomes increasingly difficult to manage our personal data. Pictures, music, movies, documents, all need to be available on every device that we access. However, the storage capacities available on devices such as smart phones are typically small in comparison to the data that needs to be synchronized. Thus, it is not possible to simply synchronize all the data.
In this project you will design and implement an innovative solution to this problem, that far outshines the features of contemporary cloud services such as Dropbox or Google Drive. You will implement a cloud backed file system that employs content aware caching strategies to effectively synchronize the right data to the right devices at the right time. You will implement your solution as a Fuse file system in Java, C++ or Python.
