Project No. 0127:  Walking with Dinosaurs - evolve dinosaurs that can move on their own accord

Description:

Animators have hand-animated dinosaurs for decades, from Ray Harryhausen [1] classics like 1953's "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" to "Jurassic Park". But what would real dinosaurs move like? Using best technologies from artificial life, learning systems, 3D physics engines, we plan on finding out. The secret sauce is combining real dinosaur data, the Havoc physics engine [2], and Karl Sims's Evolved Virtual Creatures [3]. A first version of this project was completed in Fall of 2012 by Benjamin Ma and Peter Ølsted. Their project report is available on the reports page [4]. That project could be extended by any new student that wishes to pursue this project.
