Project No. 0103:  Tool Support for Inspections
Aktuelle Tidligere

Description:

The Fagan-Inspection technique has been proved to be one of the simplest, and most cost-effective approaches to quality assurance of code â and in fact any kinds of artifacts created during software development. It has been invented decades ago, but it is still not in widespread use in industry or academia. One of the reasons for this is the lack of tool support. In a previous MSc thesis, a prototype has been built to solve this problem. Using the prototype in teaching has revealed several shortcomings of this prototype.

The goal of this project is to improve this tool, and add new functions to support, e.g., online group collaboration such as chat functions, integration with modeling tools such as MagicDraw, and automation of administrative tasks such as collection of statistics, and team administration.

The tool is currently implemented with MySQL/PHP/JavaScript, so skills in these techniques are a requirement for students interested in this project. Knowledge of Fagan-Inspections can easily be acquired in the project. Depending on the qualifications of the student, instead of an incremental change, a complete re-implementation might be considered, which would allow choosing a different technology stack for the implementation. One of the alternatives might be to go for an Eclipse-based tool.
