Project No. 0073:  Facial scan alignment
Aktuelle Tidligere

Description:

Several surface scans have been acquired of a person’s head. The goal is to create one complete surface of the entire head by patching the individual scans together. Initially, the scans should be roughly aligned. This can be done using for example manual landmarking or using matching of anatomical features. Secondly, an existing algorithm can be used to fine-tune the alignment and create a final surface. The project can also include detection of noise and outliers and non-rigid alignment. A dataset of pre-scanned heads exists, but it is also possible to use a state-of-the-art 3D scanner to acquire custom data.

The project can potentially be done using Matlab. However, most advanced 3D toolkits are based on C++. Knowledge of image analysis or computer graphics is required. An existing tool called Sumatra is available. It can be used to view and manipulate 3D surfaces. Parts of the project can be performed using Sumatra.

Prerequisites:  Knowledge of image analysis or computer graphics.
Knowledge of Matlab or C++.
