Description:

Many computer architectures have in the last 15 years reached their end of life. Although you can still buy new processors based on these architectures, resources are not spent on improving performance. A lot of software running on the aforementioned architectures are still in production leading to an interest in making it possible to run old software on modern processors. The source code is often no longer available or usable. Instead, the binary executable files are either interpreted on or translated to the new processors. The thesis proposal involves implementing a portion of a binary translation engine which translate code running on the Motorola 680x0 series of processors into code running on a modern 64-bit Intel or AMD processor.

Prerequisites:  Experience with low-level programming. Experience with assembly programming is not required but could be beneficial.
