Master in Computational and Applied Mathematics
OR for Decision Making
The use of computer support for decision making in companies and
public institutions is increasing dramatically. Airlines, public
transportation companies, banks, and health care institutions use
decision support in material- and manpower planning, routing,
scheduling, and investment planning. The most advanced tools are based
on mathematical models developed in Operations Research (OR), which is
referred to as "the science of the better".
The courses in this specialization cover basic and advanced technical
topics in optimization (linear and integer programming, non-linear
optimization, network optimization, and heuristics). Also, more
soft/organisatorial aspects are touched upon. The collaboration with
industrial companies on thesis projects provides the link between
theory and practice.
